On Friday, May 10th, 2024 the Black Cat Choir had their final concert of the year. The choir students began learning the music at the end of February. The program featured a mix of Latin jazz songs and classical jazz standards. The 4/5th Grade Block 2 choir opened the concert with a heartfelt rendition of It’s All Right. The 8thGrade and 6/7th Grade Block 1 combined choir dazzled the audience with their impeccable Portuguese diction in Antonio Carlos Jobim’s So Danço Samba. The singers in the 4/5th Grade Block 1 choir wowed everyone with their excellent efforts in part-singing (that’s when the choir sings different melodies against each other in harmony!) during their song, On the Sunny Side of the Street. To close the concert, the 6/7th Grade Block 2 sang a challenging vocal scat rendition of Oye Como Va. In addition to our fabulous choir members, we welcomed two guest performers: Marc Ghosn on the piano and Jeff Seltzer on the drums and congas.
Ms. Jackeline Ovalle, Choir and music teacher, works year-round with our fourth through eighth-grade students to achieve these fabulous performances. We thank her for her outstanding work and dedication to the arts.
