This is the Spelling Bee Club’s second year at DRAW Academy. This year, the club presented two Spelling Bees which featured over 50 students who bravely got on stage in front of both a live audience and audiences in every classroom on campus to showcase their spelling abilities. In the end, 3rd grader Kimberly Gonzalez and 5th grader Samuel de la Rosa won the coveted positions of DRAW’s best spellers as well as an opportunity to advance to the Scripps Regional Spelling Bee. “I am so proud of each Spelling Bee participant. It’s not easy getting on stage and competing in front of your peers, but they did it!” commented Mrs. Parker. “The ability to spell well not only benefits students in their daily communications, but it also gives them confidence as they head into their futures.” Thank you to everyone who had a hand in the planning and execution of this year’s Spelling Bee. It was definitely exciting to watch!
Mrs. Catherine Parker is a third grade teacher and the Spelling Bee’s club’s sponsor. Mrs. Parker works with students weekly to help them grow their knowledge of phonics, grammar rules, spelling strategies, and their vocabularies.
