Partial Eclipse at DRAW !

April 8th, 2024 was a day we all waited for with excitement and curiosity. Houston was going to experience a Partial Eclipse at 90% from totality. The weather report was very gloomy: cloudy with a chance of light rain.

Are we going to be able to see anything at all? Everyone had their solar glasses ready and had a chance to watch videos of the simulation and learn so many facts about eclipses that we all could almost see it in our imaginations.

The news announced the beginning of the occultation at 12:20 and the skies were cloudy, some hint of rain. “It’s ok” we thought, hoping for a change of luck. As the day passed by, we kept going outside to pick on the skies:” is it there yet?”

By 1:30pm we were all outside wearing our glasses looking up in hope to see the rare event of the Moon passing by in front of the Sun just in perfect timing with Earth so the Sun is completely covered for brief minutes. Totality was not going to be observed in Houston but still 90% partiality is really close.

Out of nowhere, a pocket of sky opened up through the clouds, a perfect hole for us to see the eclipse! For several minutes we screamed and stared in awe at such a beautiful view: it looked like a crescent moon! But it was the Sun! What a view!

Finally the Moon continued its journey around Earth, Earth continued orbiting the Sun and the magic moment was gone. The Universe is just moving on in its never ending expansion.

The pictures and videos we took are going to be great memories for years to come.

Thanks to all who made this happened!
