Following an inspiring Career Day presentation by our very own Mr Donatti, He shared his journey as a pilot sparking curiosity and interest, among our students. His engaging tales of flying through the skies and the mix of freedom and responsibility that piloting entails deeply resonated with our learners.
I’m excited to tell you about an experience that a group of our middle school students had at West Houston Airport recently. As teachers we’re constantly looking for ways to spark curiosity and provide learning experiences, for our students. This recent outing definitely accomplished that. Then some. A few weeks ago, a team of our brilliant middle school students got to take flight, quite literally, at West Houston Airport.
The students excitement was palpable as they got to experience first hand the pre-flight check list before boarding the plane. For many of them it was their time being so close, to an aircraft let alone getting the chance to fly one! As the plane taxied down the runway and soared into the sky their faces lit up with wonder and amazement. During the take off and flight the students had the opportunity to take control under the watch of the pilots. From making turns to experiencing the thrill of going up and down each moment was a lesson in both aviation and personal development. Some found a love for flying while others learned how to overcome fears and push boundaries.
Apart from learning about flying techniques this experience also taught our students life lessons. It emphasized teamwork, communication and trust – qualities crucial not in aviation but, in all aspects of life. Furthermore it broadened their perspectives. Inspired them to dream showing them that there are endless possibilities beyond just reaching for the sky.
